Chanctonbury Tales Walk & Talk
If you’d like to combine your love of talking with walking we’d like to invite you to join B&H Toastmasters this autumn and next spring walking the South Downs way for ‘The Chanctonbury Tales’, B&H Toastmasters version of Chaucer’s classic.
To make it easier on our bodies and our time off from work we’ll do the 100 mile walk in 2 long weekends of 4 days. Stint 1 will be this autumn, Friday 29th September – Monday 2nd October and will run from Winchester to Amberley. Stint 2 will see in the Spring in March/April 2018 (dates TBA) and will run from Amberley to Eastbourne. Each day’s walking would be around 12 miles as seen in the table below.

The format is simple. We walk in the days, we talk in the evenings. Not formally like at our meetings but if everyone brings at least 3 juicy tales to each weekend, i.e. 1 for each evening, that would be 3 very entertaining evenings each stint in cosy hostelries after some joyous walking.
There’s choice of accommodation on the way – this planner is a good guide. From a quick scan all stops appear to have a pub to gather in nearby. B&H Toastmaters will arrange a table in the pub for all in the evenings, you will be responsible for where you stay along the way.
The storytelling theme of Stint 1 is journeying. Bring tales of journeys you have done, or journeys you would like to do. Inner journeys of learning and discovery. Famous journeys. Infamous journeys. Journeys around the natural and social history of the South Downs. Funny journeys that perhaps didn’t quite follow their planned route. Journeys that ended in tragedy. Journeys that ended in reunion. Journeys that ended in joy, as ours will hopefully!
If you like the sound of this please register your interest by email to jimscottallen@gmail.com by Friday 26th May. Guests are welcome too.
Here’s to rambling …. and rambling!
