Speakers Club

We have a winner! (well, two actually)

September 23, 2016 By Jez Kay

I have to confess to being a little irreverent when talking all things Brighton and Hove Speakers Club.

Five things –

1) I always tell people that this club is not like the Masons
2) That we’re the best Toastmasters Club in the whole of the UK (if not the world)
3) That BAHSC is far more diverse than any speakers club that you can imagine
4) That the speakers are more funny and informative
5) That I’m right about all 4 above

Well, to prove it all, members Rebecca and Kay have only gone and come 1st and 2nd in the Area Contest for Humorous Speakers and Table Topics speakers respectively!

I should come down from my lofty mount for a bit…

First of all, congratulations to both of them for being completely fabulous.

They’re not the only fab ones in the group of course. But they went for it and came out on top. And that’s a most noble thing.

The wonderful thing about being in a speakers club like BAHSC is that there is constant support from your peers. Members are encouraged to face their demons and do what most are most afraid to do – stand up and speak. And of course they are constructively evaluated so that they can fast become the inspiring and confident vocal peeps they are inside.

And once they’ve built their confidence and trust up (or maybe were just born that way) they can enter club and area contests just like Rebecca and Kay did. And generally grab the nettle and get involved with allsorts, from roles such as toastmaster, evaluator, grammarian, timekeeper and Sergeant-at-arms, to organising club social events, being VP PR (that’s me), maybe even becoming President of the club.

It’s a great place, it really is. But just don’t take my word for it. Roll up and try it out – everyone gets a go, member or guest – and get set for a memorable pastime in the best Toastmasters Club on The Planet.

Celebrating 15 Years of Brighton and Hove Speakers Club

May 16, 2016 By Dan Brown

15anniversary1

Break out the champagne – this Wednesday Brighton and Hove Speakers Club will be 15 years old! To celebrate the occasion, we will have a very special guest joining us to give a commemorative speech…founding member and Inaugural President Jackie Arnold. Jackie is a very experienced speaker, coach and author, with a number of published books about public speaking which you can see on her Amazon page here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jackie-Arnold/e/B0034PGDW2/ref=dp_byline_cont_book_1

The club’s longest-serving member Mary Thomas will also give a talk on her years with the club, plus Dan Hawes will be reaching his own personal milestone…delivering his 10th and final speech of the Competent Communicator manual

As always, guests are most welcome to come along for free, and see how they could join the many who have gone before them over the past 15 years who became better speakers and leaders – thanks to the support and encouragement at Brighton and Hove Speakers Club

Cheers!
